WHAT IS A MOT?

M.O.T. stands for Ministry

Of Transport.

All UK cars 3 years old and over require a valid MOT certificate by law.

The MOT scheme is a road safety measure designed to ensure that all cars, motorcycles and light goods vehicles more than 3 years old are properly maintained.

At least once a year a vehicle must be examined at an authorised MOT test station to make sure that they comply with certain important requirements of the law.

HOW SOON CAN I HAVE A MOT?

MOT tests can be carried out on your car up to one month prior to the expiry date of an existing UK MOT certificate provided that a current MOT certificate is presented to the examiner at the time of the test.

In other words...

One month before your MOT expires.

THE MOT TEST

The MOT test checks that your vehicle complies with the minimum standards required for lawful use on the road.

The MOT test is not a substitute for proper and regular servicing.

Passing the MOT test does not mean that your vehicle will remain safe for the following 12 months.

All vehicles need proper and regular servicing irrespective of the MOT test.

DVSA APPROVED GARAGE

When you’re getting an MOT for your car or van, you need to go to an approved MOT test centre. These centres are authorised to provide you with an MOT test that makes sure your car is roadworthy. Without the DVSA seal of approval, your MOT won’t be valid. Approved MOT centres have the MOT symbol displayed outside and qualified technicians that are well trained to the latest standards. Nominated DVSA testers go through regular training each year to make sure that keep up to date with the standards required.
